Starting in 2003 the NSDM team will be bringing a shorter, demonstration
version of our popular game to conventions around the country. This is a
4-hour learning session designed to introduce the novice player to the NSDM
environment and give them a taste of the game. These shorter sessions will
allow the new player a chance to try NSDM without committing to a full 8-10
hour game session. The FastPlay game scenarios will be more structured than the
traditional version of the game, with the scenario posed to start the
players off with an emerging crisis (usually the point that a standard game
will reach after about five hours of run time).
If you've wanted to try the National Security Decision Making Game, but have
been reluctant to invest the 8-10 hours that it would take, this is your
chance to take a look during a standard 4-hour game slot.
With the more rigid structure and scenario scripting, the number of player
positions may be limited. If you are a veteran player you may find that the
demo game is not the flexible experience that you are used to. Veterans who
wish to assist are welcome, but may be asked to be facilitators, or to help
mentor novice players (at least to take it easy on them), and to limit their
activities to areas within the bounds of the scenario as presented. There
will be no prizes awarded.
Ticket prices for NSDM FastPlay games will be listed in the respective
convention schedule booklets.
